Some Of The Important Festivals Of Bhutan
Thimphu Festival
Thimphu festival is one of the biggest festivals in Bhutan which occurs in two parts: Thimphu Lhamoi Dromche and Thimphu Tshechu. Thimphu Lhamoi Dromche takes place a few days before Thimphu Tshechu. Thimphu Lhamoi Dromche is massively performed inside the courtyard of the Thimphu Dzong and the Thimphu Tshechu is performed outside of the Dzong to the North.
Paro Tshechu Festival
Paro Tshechu is one of the biggest and the colorful festivals in the kingdom of Bhutan. Paro Tshechu festival draws a huge crowd who gather to witness the sacred mask dance and to avail themselves of the blessings. Most of the people in Bhutan on that day are well dressed in their finest attires they enjoy the festival and spend quality time with their families.
Jambay Lhakhang Festival
Jambay Lhakhang festival is one of the most unique festivals of Bhutan. `Jambay Lhakhang Durb’ literally means consecration of Jambay Temple. Jampel Lhakhang is consecrated every year with festivity.
Black Necked Carne Festival
Beautiful Gangtey Valley is the roosting grounds for endangered Black Necked Crane birds which migrate from Tibet to Bhutan. The Black Necked Carne Festival is celebrated to mark the arrival of giant majestic birds. The festival held on the 11th of November every year.
Druk Wangyel Tshechu
Druk Wangyel Tshechu is also commonly known as Dochula Festival, the venue of the festival is Dochula pass, one of the highest motor-able roads in Bhutan. You got to take a drive of 25Km from Thimphu Valley to reach Dochula Pass. The beauty of the festival is watching the dance on the hilltop with the backdrop of the stunning Eastern Himalayas. The festival takes place in winter, to be specific on the 13th of December.
Rhododendron Festival Festivals of Colors
The rhododendron festival in Bhutan has its own charm and beauty. The festival takes place in the spring season. This is the time of the year when the Rhododendron blooms in a full swing. The venue for the Rhododendron festival is the Royal Botanical Park of Bhutan. During that time the park is beautifully set with decorated natural lakes where boating, walking, bike riding, and camping facilities are provided.
